About Miranda

Miranda Bakonyi is a Counsellor and Art Therapist Intern at Heartspace Counselling and Art Therapy.

Starting September 2025, Miranda is offering Low-Cost Individual Counselling and Art Therapy sessions and Open Studio.

Hello, it’s great to meet you! My name is Miranda, and I am a Counselling and Art Therapy Intern at Heartspace Counselling and Art Therapy. I am in my  final year of Master of Clinical Counselling: Art Therapy program at Adler University.

When it comes to our work together, I’m committed to bringing warmth, empathy, and a nonjudgmental presence into each session. My approach to therapy is person-centered and relational, which means you set the direction of our work, and I’m here to offer support and compassionate understanding that is attuned to your unique needs. I believe that we do not exist in isolation from our contexts or relationships and I place deep value on the therapeutic relationship between us as a meaningful part of healing and growth.

Our sessions may integrate talk therapy, mindfulness, and art therapy. Sometimes, words alone can feel limiting when trying to express or process what we’re carrying. Art can be a powerful medium for emotional release and for capturing the nuanced experiences in our inner world.

The theoretical frameworks I feel most aligned with are Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT). I’ve also completed introductory training in Gestalt therapy and Trauma-Informed Practice (TIPI Level 1: Trauma and the Body).

At times, I may incorporate somatic techniques to support deeper awareness and regulation. Overall, I take an integrative approach that adapts to your needs, and we can discuss what feels most helpful along the way.

I feel especially drawn to working with individuals who struggle with emotional regulation, perfectionism, anxiety, setting boundaries, and navigating interpersonal relationships. As someone who grew up highly sensitive, I’ve experienced many of these challenges firsthand, and I understand how overwhelming they can feel. Through my own journey, I’ve witnessed the healing potential of counselling and art therapy as avenues to greater ease, insight, and self-compassion. This is what makes the work feel so meaningful to me.

At the heart of my approach is the belief that each of us holds unique strengths and values, and that these can be harnessed to build a life that feels authentic and aligned with who we truly are.

As a counselling and art therapist intern, I’ll be growing and learning alongside you, and I always welcome your feedback about what may not be working for you. We are all unique individuals with different backgrounds, life experiences, goals, and needs, and I will always do my best to understand you and meet you where you’re at. I’m here to support you in whatever feels most important each session, and to walk alongside you as you move toward your goals.

Outside of the therapy room, I love to find fun ways to move my body that feel good – whether it’s yoga, snowboarding, riding my bike or dancing. Some of my favourite ways to wind down include listening to music, reading a good book, drawing, or cuddling with my cats!
