About Stephanie

Stephanie is a Registered Clinical Counsellor and Art Therapist based in B.C., Canada.

She holds a Master’s Degree in Counselling Psychology: Art Therapy (MCP-AT).

Stephanie has 10+ years of experience working in community and education centres, respite care, non-profit organizations, migrant schools, primary, secondary and tertiary institutions.

Before working clinically in the mental health field, I had worked in the education setting for 8 years, working closely as an educator with children, parents, and teachers. I have an interest in resource development, and have created Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) curriculums such as the School Care Kit and the Family Care Kit as free pandemic resources for over 600 teachers, 30,000 students and 700 families during and post COVID-19.

I particularly enjoyed working hands-on in the classroom, from supporting neurodivergent students in inclusion classes as an educational assistant, to teaching adolescents and adults Psychology and English as a Second Language (TESOL) as a NET, to facilitating creative playgroups for children and infants as young as 6 months old. (Or outside the classroom in intensive #6Days2Stage musical theatre summer camps.)

Since then, I have continued to serve families as I specialized in trauma work, counselling children and youth (ages 3-18) who have witnessed and/or survived violence, and supporting separated/divorced parents. I also provide individual counselling to adults with psychoeducation, emotion coaching, caregiver support and parenting skills as needed.

Regardless of clients' age, I adopt a client-centered approach that is strength-based and trauma-informed. I integrate the expressive modalities of play, sandtray, and art therapy for children, youth and adults alike as creativity knows no age or bounds. I hope to encourage and inspire children and adults alike to nurture their inner child, allowing for joy and spontaneous play, and reconnect to their most true authentic self by working through creative blocks and teaming against Inner Critic, Perfectionism, Anxiety and Imposter Syndrome.

Besides 1-on-1 work, I have facilitated self-care workshops and Art As Therapy groups on topics such as Mindfulness and Self-Compassion. I have also been invited as a guest speaker for local and international organizations and universities as well as webinars, conferences and retreats to promote Art Therapy and its therapeutic value in improving mental health and well-being.

In my spare time, I play, create and learn - these are all important self-care practices for me. I love exploring through images, metaphors, and symbols. My favourite hobbies and forms of self-expression include art-making, poetry-writing, journaling, singing/karaoke, dancing, and taking care of two adopted and bonded kitties: Spirit and Nala (fromThe Lion King).
